What’s On This August

You’ll be plenty busy this August in Skipton…

There’s everything from marvellous metallic creations to sensational drag acts this month in Skipton, not to mention live music, sun-drenched BBQs and archaeological digs! 

Marvellous Mechanicals Exhibition, Craven Gallery, Skipton Town Hall

From 4th August Mon-Sat/10am-4pm

There’s always something interesting to see at the Craven Gallery and August is no exception. Marvellous Mechanicals is a touring exhibition that intends on surprising and delighting people of all ages. Created by artists and designers from around the country, this collection of automata, coin operated machines and robots can be explored at your leisure or as a workshop which are absolutely free.

Life on Mars, Venue Sports and Music Bar

5th August/10pm-3am

You can always guarantee a good time when you’re in the capable hands of resident host Aaron Lang.

His regular ‘Life on Mars’ nights always bring in a big crowd of music lovers and this date in August will be no exception.

On the bill with him this tie will be the ever present Tom Hawkins as well as local boys Bamba D, fresh from their set at Reach Festival.

Raikewood Camp Dig, The Coach House

6th August/10am-4pm

Have you ever wondered what life in a World War I training camp must have been like? Or what it must have been like to be a prisoner of war in Skipton? Get answers to these questions as well as many more when you explore the Raikeswood Camp Dig this August. Take a guided tour around the archaeological site on this open day. Tours are free and will no doubt be very enlightening.

Drag With No Name, The Cross Keys

18th August/From 6pm onwards

Every Friday there’s a host of things to do down at everyone’s favourite local, The Cross Keys. Everything from Cash Karoake to a Smartphone Quiz is on offer, but there’s the added bonus of a drag show from the legendary Drag with No Name. Entry is absolutely free, as always, so there’s no reason to miss out!

Family Summer BBQ Fun Day, Venue Sports and Music Bar

27th August/All Day

Although this hardly been the sunniest of Summers, there’s no reason to give up on it yet. Venue will once more be putting on their Bank Holiday Summer BBQ which is guaranteed to be fun for the whole family. This year it’s up to you to bring along the meat, salads and sides as there’s a competition on! Each entry will be cooked by the resident Chef Knapp, so you can put your foot up and enjoy the Summer sun.
